Relationship between the design characteristics of activity-based flexible offices and users’ perceptions of privacy and social interactions

Activity-based flexible offices (AFOs) provide a variety of workspaces to meet the need for social interactions and privacy at work. This study investigates relationship between design characteristics AFOs users’ perceptions visual acoustic interactions. case is based on post-occupancy evaluations in three AFO layouts public service organization Sweden. A mixed-method approach adopted that combines questionnaires layout analysis. In general, results showed while aesthetics received highest satisfaction scores, office functionality, task support, storage lowest ratings. Key were operationalized, observed exemplified: zone diversity, proportion, readability, spatial enclosure, sharing ratios functionality furniture tools. These insights may contribute better-informed decisions about influence AFOs.
